Patient Story - Leah B.

Getting answers for the many questions about melanoma.

When Leah became a dermatology physician assistant, she never imagined that one day she would become a patient. In January 2022, just five days after her wedding, she received the call that changed her life.

When she learned that she had melanoma, many questions came to mind. “How bad is this? What does this mean for my marriage of 5 days? Should I have kids? What does this mean for my longevity?”

After Leah had her wide local excision, her surgeon sent off her biopsy for the DecisionDx-Melanoma test. Her test results came back as low-risk (Class 1A) with an overall survival rate of 99.8%. Facing so many questions, DecisionDx-Melanoma gave her the answers she needed. With a low-risk result, Leah avoided additional surgeries, navigated her diagnosis with confidence, and found peace of mind for the future.

For me, I was very lucky because it was a good result. But I think even for patients that maybe don’t have the most promising result it is a very helpful tool for them to be able to plan going forward, knowing what their potential risk of recurrence or need for surgeries or lymph node biopsies. I think the ability to plan is what this test gives you.
